WebApr 23, 2022 · A real-valued statistic \(U = u(\bs{X})\) that is used to estimate \(\theta\) is called, appropriately enough, an estimator of \(\theta\). Thus, the estimator is a random variable and hence has a distribution, a mean, a variance, and so on (all of which, as noted above, will generally depend on \( \theta \)).
